Yacht and boat, a sail-or power-driven vessel, generally light and relatively little, utilized for hustling or for diversion. In entertainment, the term applies to huge specialty, initially fueled by sail and later by steam or inner ignition motors. The English word yacht and the proportional word in numerous European dialects originates from the Dutch use in the sixteenth and seventeenth hundreds of years of the word jaght, later jacht, which, with the word schip included, signified "send for pursuing."
